Some non-profit organizations have complex missions that take years to see results. Our founder and Executive Director, Ruth Stalford’s work leading Make Good, and its core programs: The Book Foundation and The TAY Shop at The Emporium: Foster Resource & Literacy Center was much clearer, simpler, and more tangible. Get new books and new essential items into the hands of the most vulnerable youth in Los Angeles County. Treat these children with dignity and respect by not just offering them hand-me-downs, but by giving them something brand new that they actually choose themselves. It sounds so simple, but giving a child who rarely has anything that is truly their own, not just something that is new but something that they themselves selected, is a powerful idea. An idea that encourages these children to read, to show up to work feeling proud, and to actually feel like someone cares about them.
