Our Story

Making Good on our promises.

Literacy is the key to opening doors and creating opportunity. Some non-profit organizations have complex missions that take years to see results. Our Founder and Executive Director, Ruth Stalford, built Make Good based on the goal of putting new books and new essential items directly into the hands of the most vulnerable youth in Los Angeles County.

Treat young people with dignity and respect by giving them brand new items that they actually choose themselves, instead of hand me downs. It sounds so simple, but empowering a child to choose something for themselves is transformative. Someone cares about them. 

In 2014, The Book Foundation was born. In mid-2017, The TAY Shop came to life, and in 2022 we scaled up the Life Literacy Workshops to round out Make Good’s impact.
